Many local men and wowen defended our country through out the various wars. Below are lists, by war, of these brave men and women.
Approximately 222 men from the Sixtowns of Southern Jefferson County died in the serve of their country during the Civil War. Of these 76 were killed in action. The highest single day loss was at the 2nd Battle of Bull Run on Aug. 30, 1862 - 15 KIA and 7 died later of wounds. 93 died of disease, 46 the cause of death was not stated, 2 killed by snipers, 1 poisoned, 1 drowned and 3 died in Railroad accidents.
